Indigenous Heritage Month

Indigenous Heritage Month

Indigenous heritage isn’t limited to one month on the calendar. It lives in our stories, languages, teachings, creativity, and the ways we care for one another—every day.
This month offers a meaningful moment to celebrate Indigenous peoples and communities. But our roots, histories, and cultures are not seasonal. They are living, growing, and carried forward every day—in what we remember, what we share, and how we show up for the next generation.
For many of us, celebrating our roots can be a personal journey. It might mean learning more about our family history, listening to the elders and knowledge-keepers in our lives, reconnecting with a language, or making space for traditions that have been carried forward despite generations of change. There is no single way to belong, and no one story that represents every Indigenous person or community.
At Ayotochtli, we believe clothing can be one way to express pride, identity, and connection. But heritage is much bigger than what we wear. It’s also found in everyday acts: sharing stories, supporting Indigenous artists and businesses, learning whose land we’re on, caring for community, and creating space for Indigenous voices to be heard on their own terms.
This month—and throughout the year—we invite you to celebrate in ways that feel meaningful to you. Learn something new. Support Indigenous-led work. Share a story. Ask a family member about the memories they carry. Celebrate the strength, creativity, and diversity of Indigenous communities, while remembering that each nation and person has their own distinct history and traditions.
May we honor our roots not only on a designated day or during a designated month, but in the choices we make and the connections we nurture every day.
Our heritage is living. Our stories continue. Every day is a reason to celebrate.
With respect and pride,

Ayotochtli
